Just the thought of getting out of bed at 8:55 in the morning, stirring a cup of coffee, and stepping right into your home office just 7 feet away doesn’t sound half bad. In fact, that sounds glorious. Working from home is definitely a thing of this generation, and it’s looking more and more attractive to a lot of people. It’s not just because you’ll be able to skip a 45-minute commute to work, but you’ll also be able to work in just pyjama bottoms, listening to your own favourite soundtrack, with a comfortable cosy bed just a few steps away, and of course right in the comfort of your own home.
If you are considering having a WFH set up, here is a list of things to do to have your very own home office for a successful remote work arrangement:
- Find a cosy and secluded spot for your home office – Make room in your apartment, condo, or house where you can have your office setup. Ideally, this area should be a little quieter than the rest of the house and far away from distractions. If there’s an extra room available in your house, go ahead and use that one. If there is no extra room, just don’t pick a space near the front door; otherwise you’ll be busy spending your day answering the doorbell and checking the mail and parcels.
- Pick the right furniture – This is the fun part; you get to shop around for office furniture that will last you a long time while you enjoy working remotely. You get to pick your choice of an office desk, a drawer cabinet, and an office chair. Well, these three pieces of furniture are just the basics of what you’ll need, but you can add more. Such as an extra table for your printer and copy machine, a file cabinet for all your work documents, or a comfortable 2-seater sofa for when you want a nap from working.
- Add accessories – For a remote home setup, all you will need is your laptop, a sturdy desk and chair as your office furniture, and a stable internet connection. Of course, if you want to be the most productive worker, you need office desk accessories that will make your life easier. Some of these accessories you’ll need are a desk lamp, a tablet stand, a portable wireless keyboard, wireless headsets, a whiteboard, highlighter pens, and notepads, among others.
- Personalise your workspace. It’s not enough to have a quality office desk and a comfortable office chair; you also need personal items that will remind you of your work motivations and inspiration. It could be a framed family picture, an old keepsake from grandma, a little music box from your best friend, or a framed letter from your lover. Whatever these personal little items are, it’s good to add it to your work desk as a nice little reminder for why you’re working so hard.
Now, you’re ready to work remotely and earn the success you’ve been aiming for!
